5k Run & 1 Mile Walk

Heather L. Hurd was killed in a traffic accident in 2008 by a distracted driver. This event honors the memory of the hundreds of victims who are tragically killed on Maryland roads each year and acknowledge the work of our fire, police, and ambulance personnel. The proceeds from this event will benefit the Harford Community College Remembrance Book Scholarship Fund for HCC students and help raise awareness of traffic accidents, their consequences and costs, and the measures that can be taken to prevent them.

Entry Fees:

5k & Walk:
$20 for general public prior to race day, $25 on race day
$15 for HCC students and employees (with valid ID) prior to race day, $25 on race day
$10 for participants 18 & under with a registered runner or walker prior to race day, $25 on race day

The event will be held rain or shine, and entry fees are non-refundable.

The USATF sanctioned 5k course will cover the grounds of Harford Community College on paved surfaces. Pets, roller skates, and other wheeled devices are not allowed on the course for the 5k – strollers must start at the back of the field.

Awards:

The top male and female in the following age groups will receive an award: 14 and under, 15-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60+

Amenities:

T-shirts to all participants (sizes and availability not guaranteed for those registering after October 25). Water will be available at the halfway point of the 5k course, and course marshals will direct racers at major turns. Post-race refreshments will also be available.

Packet Pick Up:

Packets will be available for pick up on race day from 7 AM – 8:45 AM at the start/finish line.  Additional packet pickup opportunities may be announced, so please check back for the most up-to-date information.

Memorial Day is the occasion to celebrate and commemorate America’s warriors. The Baltimore City Police Department Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 3 and the Baltimore City Fire Department Fire Fighters IAFF Local 734 together with Boston Street Running will be sponsoring the first annual Special Operations Memorial Day 5K Run to honor our warriors and provide direct financial support to the surviving families of one of America’s most elite fighting forces; the US Navy SEALs. All proceeds from registration/entry fees to this event will be donated to the Navy SEAL Foundation (http://www.navysealfoundation.org).

The 5K run will be a fast out-and-back starting and finishing at Boston Street Running, 2700 block of Boston Street. The race will head East along Boston Street to S. Clinton Street, turn right and head South along S. Clinton Street to the turn-a-round point. The race course will offer a unique vantage point from which to experience Baltimore City and it’s maritime and industrial sector as the course travels through the Canton Port District with scenic views of Ft. McHenry, the John Brown, the City skyline and the harbor.

Amenities:

Runners! Come to the shores of the Susquehanna River in downtown Havre de Grace to Kick-Off “Pirate Weekend” by kicking up your heels! Run along the Lafayette Trail with waterfront views and historic landmarks, to benefit The Susquehanna Museum at The Lock House, a private, non-profit institution that collects, documents, and preserves the cultural heritage of the City of Havre de Grace.

The race will begin inside the Ripken Academy complex at Ripken Stadium and will navigate through the surrounding area before ending on the warning track inside Ripken Stadium.

Parking:

Runners should park in Ripken’s largest lot using the first entrance on Long Drive (entrance is on the right). Please park on the side of the lot closest to the stadium. Parking attendants will be there to assist. We encourage you to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the race start to minimize traffic once the 5K begins.

Volunteers and vendors should park in the smaller lot directly in front of the stadium entrance. You will not be able to enter or leave this parking lot from 15 minutes prior to the race start (8:00am) until 15 minutes after the last person finishes the course (estimated 9:00am). If you need to leave during this time, please park in the larger parking lot.
